Prayer Guide 21 June 2020

Sunday

Connecting my heart to the heart of the Father
Father, Your Word says that the fruit of the Holy Spirit is evident in my life by the way that I love others, that if I say that I love You yet hate my brother, I am a liar. I know Father, that so often, I do not love as You have called me to love. I love when it is convenient, when I’m in the right mood, or even worse, only if someone has been loving to me.

Forgive me. Have mercy on me, Lord. Forgive my self-serving, selfish loving. Fill me I pray, with Your love and compassion.

I ask You to bring healing to damaged relationships in my life, those who I find difficult to love and I especially pray for… (Pray for those that the Holy Spirit brings to mind).

You have said that love is patient and kind, it does not envy or boast, it isn’t arrogant or rude, selfish or easily provoked. It does not keep record of wrong or rejoice in unrighteousness. Father, give me this kind of love for those You have placed in my life – for the world around me!

May my love for my family members, my co-workers, neighbours and classmates – my brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus – truly bear all things, believe all things, hope all things and endure all things. Keep my love from failing (Pause and pray further for specific people and situations).

May extravagant love be evident in my relationships with my brothers and sisters in Jesus, so that I may live out Your love in the world that has yet to know You. Keep me from having any part in that which would cause division in the body of Christ. Instead, may my life be rooted and established in love.

Father, Your Word says that it is by the way that I love those in my community of faith, that the world will know that I belong to You. Give me this kind of love, I pray! As You have lavishly loved me, may I in turn love others likewise. In all things, may I be found worthy of bearing the name of Christ, and determined to live out the love of Jesus to those around me.

In His name I ask these things. Amen.

Monday

Praying the heart of the Father for the ECB Faith Community
Eternal God, thank You that You are our refuge, and underneath us are Your everlasting arms. May my brothers and sisters in Christ feel Your strong embrace this day, and be encouraged (Deuteronomy 33:27).

You are the God of all hope, Father. I pray that You will fill my brothers and sisters in Christ at ECB with joy and peace, that their hearts might overflow with hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Where there is depression or despair, discouragement or doubt, may it be dispelled in Jesus name, and the encouragement of the Holy Spirit be poured out on their lives (Romans 15:13).

I ask, Father, that You fulfil every act of those in our community of faith that is prompted by faith (increase our faith, Lord!) and encourage us all this day to keep in step with the Holy Spirit (2 Thessalonians 1:11; Galatians 5:2) (Pray for those you know by name).

Tuesday

Father, may spiritual vitality be renewed in our daily living, and all passivity and apathy cast out in Jesus’ name. Father, make us to be a people who live out the love of Jesus to those around us!

I pray for those in our fellowship who are young in their faith and ask that You protect them from the evil one. May their faith increase (John 17:15).

Father, I ask that you strengthen the marriages represented among us. May the hearts of husbands and wives turn towards one another. Protect covenant relationships against the evil one, I pray.

Wednesday

ECB Prayer and Fasting Focus
Wednesdays have been set aside as a day of prayer and fasting for the ministries of ECB and to ask God for a greater outpouring of the Holy Spirit among us. You are invited to join in praying and fasting during one or all meals, or from something that is important to you. To receive a weekly Prayer and Fasting e-mail, please contact [email protected]
Father, I ask that among us there would not be even a hint of sexual immorality or any kind of impurity or greed. Strengthen marriage relationships, strengthen my single brothers and sisters, I pray (Ephesians 5:3)!

Father, may we truly hate what is evil and cling to what is good. Destroy every deed of darkness among us and may we put on the armour of light, clothing ourselves with Jesus only! Reveal the hidden things, Father! Purify us and make us holy (Romans 12:9; 13:12-14)!

Father, I pray for my brothers and sisters in Christ at ECB, that we might stand firm and not be overcome by the evil around us, but rather that we might overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21) (Pray for those you know by name, that they will be strengthened to stand firm in their faith).

Increase our boldness in speaking Your Word, Father, and confirm Your Word among us with signs and wonders, that You, Lord Jesus, might be exalted and the unbelieving come to faith (Acts 4:29-30)!

Thursday

It is written that we should not “misuse the name of the Lord our God for You will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses Your name”. Father, in a world that continually swears by Your name without any thought, protect our hearts, minds and mouths by Your Holy Spirit, that we might honour Your name as we ought (Deuteronomy 5:11).

Father, may we truly hate what is evil and cling to what is good. Destroy every deed of darkness among us. May we put on the armour of light, clothing ourselves with Jesus only! Reveal the hidden things, Father! Purify us and make us holy (Romans 12:9; 13:12-14)!

May we become increasingly radical in our desire for holiness and guard our minds (Romans 12:1-2).

Friday

Father, may ECB increasingly become a place where it is safe to confess our sin to another. Teach us to walk alongside one another and encourage each other in our pilgrimage towards greater Christ-likeness
(Daniel 2:22; James 5:16).

In Jesus’ name, I ask that the broken hearted among our community of faith be healed. Comfort those who mourn, Father. May beauty, gladness and praise be poured out on their lives, displacing all despair (Isaiah 61:1-3).

Father, I pray that those who are leading LIFE Groups will be empowered and anointed by Your Holy Spirit. Fill them with great joy and establish the work of their hands (Psalm 90:17) (Pray for your LIFE Group leaders by name)!

Father, I pray for my brothers and sisters in Christ who are entangled somehow in sin. I ask that they would receive a fresh glimpse of You watching for their return, and run into Your arms (Luke 15:20-24).

Saturday

I ask Lord, that You give to us ‘godly sorrow’ that brings repentance and leaves no regret. May we no longer make excuses for our sin (‘I was brought-up this way…’ ‘My father was this way…’ ‘I’ve always been an angry person…’). Give us the gift of brokenness, humility and tears before You. Increase our hunger for holiness. (2 Corinthians 7:10).

Father, prepare the hearts of Your people today to worship You tomorrow. Prepare my heart, I pray! May each of us come before you with songs of thanksgiving and joy – open our lips that we might declare Your praise – may our hearts be unleashed (Psalm 51:15)! Keep us from just listening to Your Word, may we be those who do what it says (Ephesians 5:26; James 1:22)!

Restore life to the dead places of our hearts through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit! Revive and change us, Father! Wake us up from our slumber, that we might be those who are in the harvest!
