Prayer Guide 08 May 2022

Sunday

As You fed Elijah by the brook, so feed me this day O Lord and sustain me by Your Word…

O God, how I need to find rest in You alone! I confess though, that instead of turning to You and waiting on You and allowing You to restore and refresh my soul, I often look to other things – things that provide a brief ‘numbing’ of my heart at best. Forgive me Father, for I confess that my heart is prone to wander. I choose now to fix my eyes on Jesus (Pause and quiet your heart before the Lord).

There are many storms all around me Lord. Situations, relationships, heartaches and suffering. Yet Your Word admonishes me to trust in You at all times, and pour out my heart to You. And so Father, I open my heart to You, and I choose now to cast all of my cares and longings at Your feet (Lay your heart before the Lord and cry out to Him).

How grateful I am that you know me and understand my weakness. But my great desire is to trust in You more and more, that my confidence in You would be unwavering and my faith increase. Teach me to take refuge in the shelter of Your wings! Help me to do this as I walk through this day. May my mind be stayed on You and my heart steadfast.

Thank You Father, that You are my refuge and strength, always present to help me in times of trouble. Therefore I will not fear even though…

there are shattered relationships in my life – You are the God who restores (Pause and pray).

I am weary of the world and the darkness all around me – You are Light and in You there is no darkness at all! You have overcome!

the pressures of work and finances seem overwhelming – You know my every need and I trust in Your provision.

In all things at all times, remind me continually that my citizenship, my home, is in heaven, and empower me by the Holy Spirit to live here with my eternal destiny always before me.

I run to You this day Father, and I lean on Your everlasting arms. Sustain me with Your peace as I rest in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Monday

Father, I pray that the children represented by our community of faith, from youngest to oldest, will become oaks of righteousness, and be preserved for the displaying of Your splendour alone. May they be strong in You I pray (Isaiah 61:3).

I pray for those in our fellowship who are young in their faith, and ask that You protect them from the evil one. Give them a hunger for Your Word and may they grow in godliness.

Prepare our minds for action, Lord! May we, as Your people, be increasingly self-controlled. May we not conform any longer to the world, but give to us, I pray, a hunger for holiness, that we might be holy because You are holy
(1 Peter 1:13-16)!

Tuesday

Father, I pray for those among the ECB community of faith who are suffering in the midst of trials. I ask Lord that their present circumstances would be used by You to refine their faith, and bring praise, glory and honour to Jesus. Encourage them by Your Spirit to stand firm (1 Peter 1:6-7).

Father, remind us that regardless of the circumstances that we might be facing, nothing can ever separate us from Your love for us. Help us to rise up as conquerors and see great victories won for the Kingdom (Romans 8:35-39)!

May there be salvation in Your house, Father. May those who come to ECB seeking You, find You. Open the eyes of their hearts Lord!

Wednesday

Prayer and Fasting Focus
Father, I ask in Jesus’ name that You build up ECB into a spiritual house of living stones. May we as Your people come alive in the Spirit (1 Peter 2:4-5) (Pray for those you know, by name)!

May we, as Your people, stand firm and let nothing move us. May we always give ourselves fully to Your work. Encourage us, remind us, that our labour for You is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58) (Pray for those in our fellowship that you know of by name).

Pray that resurrection power will infuse ministers of the Gospel around the world. Pray that the hearts of pastors will be revived, and the Word of God go forth with power from every pulpit (Pray for pastors in your home country).

Thursday

May our love for one another Father, be increasingly sincere. Help us to love one another deeply from the heart. May all prejudice, hatred, envy and strife be destroyed in Jesus’ name! Unify us under the banner of Christ (1 Peter 1:22-23, 25).

Continually remind us Father, that sharing with others is a pleasing sacrifice to You. May we be outwardly focused so we don’t become self-absorbed, but enable us by Your Spirit to extend mercy to people in every kind of need (Hebrews 13:16; Philippians 2:4; Jude 22-23).

Help us, as Your people Father, to live by the Spirit so that we will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. May we increasingly live by and keep in step with what the Spirit is doing I pray (Galatians 5:16, 24-26).

Friday

Thank You Father, for the precious blood of Christ and His redemptive work on our behalf. Thank You, for saving us from the empty way of the world (1 Peter 1:18-19)!

You have said Lord, that You will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask – Father, I ask! Fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit! Pour out Your Spirit on my brothers and sisters in Christ at ECB! Revive us – change us! Conform us to the image of Jesus (Luke 11:11-13; Psalm 85:6; Romans 8:29)!

Father, I pray that those who are leading LIFE Groups will be empowered and anointed by Your Holy Spirit. Fill them with great joy and establish the work of their hands (Psalm 90:17)!

Pray for those among us who are seeking asylum and waiting on UNHCR to receive their refugee status. Ask God to grant them favour with those who review their files. Pray that all of their needs will be met as they wait.

Saturday

Father, prepare the hearts of Your people today to worship You tomorrow. Prepare my heart, I pray! Pour out Your Spirit on us as we gather and change us into a people that is conformed to the image of Jesus!

May Your Word take root in our hearts and produce spiritual fruit.

Father, I pray for our pastors, elders and deacons, those who you have placed over us, and I ask that You give to them wisdom and discernment from heaven as they watch over the flock of ECB. Strengthen them with joy in Your presence I pray.
