Weddings at ECB

Wedding policy at ECB

Introduction
Thank you for your interest in hosting your wedding at ECB. Below you will find the guiding principles and application process to host weddings at our church.

1) Purpose
Weddings conducted by ECB are acts of Christian worship in which we seek to honor Jesus Christ, uphold the authority of Scripture, and support Christian couples in a lifelong covenant of marriage.

2) Statement of Faith and Definition of Marriage
Because ECB is an Evangelical Christian church, our wedding practices are governed by our Statement of Faith and convictions consistent with our C&MA Thailand affiliation and the historic Judeo-Christian worldview. As a church aligned with the Christian and Missionary Alliance, we encourage Christians to honor God with our bodies and honor the sanctity of marriage as Jesus taught us in Matthew 19 and the Apostle Paul taught us in Ephesians 5.

3) Eligibility to Be Married at ECB
To request a wedding at ECB, the Groom and Bride must meet all of the following:
  • Church Membership: Both individuals are active members of ECB who have been attending our church for at least six months.
  • Christian Faith: Both individuals are followers of Jesus Christ who have been baptized and are willing to pursue a Christ-centered marriage.
  • Active Participation & Service: Both individuals are actively participating in the life of the church and serving in the ECB community.
  • Pastoral Approval: The wedding may proceed only with the approval of the officiating pastor/elders after the premarital process is completed.
  • Minimum Notice: A wedding request must be submitted at least six (6) months before the proposed wedding date and approved by our operations department.

If these requirements are not met, ECB is not able to host or officiate the wedding.

4) Premarital Preparation (Required)
All couples must complete premarital counseling through ECB before a wedding date is confirmed.

Premarital preparation typically includes:
  • Approximately 10 sessions with the officiating pastor or a church-approved counselor
  • Assessment tools and guided discussion
  • Agreement to follow biblical counsel regarding marriage, sexual integrity, conflict resolution, and family discipleship.

Failure to complete premarital counseling may result in postponement or cancellation of the wedding.

5) Officiants
Weddings at ECB must be officiated by:
  • A pastor on staff at ECB or
  • Another ordained minister approved in writing by ECB leadership.

ECB may decline any request for an outside officiant.

6) Use of Church Facilities
Church facilities are reserved for weddings that align with this policy.
  • The wedding ceremony is treated as a Christian ceremony intended as an act of worship.
  • All music, readings, vows, and program content must be consistent with the church’s faith and values.
  • ECB may assign a wedding coordinator or facility representative to ensure policies are followed.

7) Civil Requirements
Couples are responsible for meeting all civil/legal requirements for marriage registration in Thailand through the appropriate government authorities. A church ceremony does not replace civil registration requirements.

8)Donations
Facility and staff costs may be covered by a recommended donation. Details will be provided upon request.

9) Conduct on Church Property
To preserve a Christ-honoring environment:
  • Alcohol, illegal drugs, and tobacco/vaping are not permitted on church property.
  • All attendees and vendors must behave respectfully and follow the directions of church staff.
  • Decorations must be pre-approved. Confetti/rice/smoke effects/open flames are not permitted.

10) Photography, Video, and Livestream
Photography and videography are permitted provided they do not disrupt worship or church operations. Certain areas may be restricted.

11) Policy on Blessings and Other Ceremonies
ECB does not perform separate “marriage blessings.” Our wedding ceremonies are conducted only according to the eligibility and doctrinal requirements described above.

12) Requests We Cannot Accommodate
Because our weddings are religious services governed by our beliefs and church membership standards, ECB does not host or officiate:
  • Weddings for non-members
  • Ceremonies that conflict with our Statement of Faith
  • Events that require clergy or facilities to act contrary to the church’s religious convictions

13) Right of Refusal and Consistent Application
ECB reserves the right to decline any wedding request, or to discontinue the wedding process, when:
  • Eligibility requirements are not met.
  • Premarital counseling raises serious concerns.
  • Required steps are not completed.
  • The requested ceremony conflicts with church doctrine or policies.

14) Scheduling and Confirmation
A wedding date is not confirmed until:
  • Eligibility is verified
  • Premarital counseling is scheduled and underway
  • Facility availability is confirmed
  • Required forms are received

This policy is applied consistently to all wedding requests.
