Baptism

What does baptism mean?

Baptism is:
1) A symbol—outer expression of an inner reality:
  • Washed clean in Jesus (1 Corinthians 6:11; Hebrews 10:22; Titus 3:5)
  • Death and resurrection (Colossians 2:12)
  • Dead to sin / Alive to God (Romans 6:9-12)

2) Consecration—something I’m saying to God:
  • My life is in You alone. (Galatians 2:20)
  • My life is for You alone. (Philippians 1:21)

3) Confession—something I’m saying to the church:
  • Listen to my testimony. (Romans 10:9-10)
  • Rejoice with me in His Lordship. (Hebrews 3:13)
  • Watch my life. (Galatians 6:1-2)
  • Walk faithfully with me. (Hebrews 10:24)

4) Affirmation—something I’m saying to myself:
  • I have decided to follow Jesus. (Philippians 3:8-9; Hebrews 12:2)
  • No turning back. (Philippians 3:13-14; 1 Corinthians 12:3)

5) Imitation—a way to be like Jesus:
  • Jesus was baptized  (Matthew 3:13-17)
  • The first believers were baptized  (Acts 2:37-38)
  • All disciples are commanded to be baptized  (Matthew 28:18-20)

Good rule to follow:
â€œIf you can be baptized you should be baptized.”
Please note, in order to be baptized you need to attend one of the baptism classes.
Baptism classes are generally held two or three times per year.
