This week's Life Group Questions

NOTE:  Questions #2 through #6 and #12 are reprinted from last week, in case your group didn’t meet or you would like another chance at some of the questions.

  1. Read Romans 4 (consider reading in two versions, like NIV and New Living Translation, The Message, The Amplified Bible.)

  2. What kinds of things do I do that cancel the righteousness of God in my life?
  3. In what ways do I behave that show that I do not fully trust God’s gift of righteousness?
  4. What does it say about God’s righteousness when…
    • I seek the approval of others?
    • I become defensive in response to others?
    • I am critical of others’ sin?.
    • I am condescending toward others’ struggles?
    • I believe that my following of Jesus is “better” than yours?
    • I can’t accept affirmation from others?
    • I am in relationships for the benefit that I receive?
  5. What does it say about God’s righteousness when…
    • I choose to put others’ needs before my own?
    • I look for ways to edify whenever I am with other Christians?
    • I share my faith with eagerness and a smile?
    • I seek ways to be generous with my time, talent and treasure?
    • I look forward to the opportunity to use my gifts to bless others?
  6. List as many promises of God as you can.  In what way are you living in expectation of these promises?

  7.  What would it look like for you to “leave your country behind” in order to fully embrace the new “land” that God has for you?
  8. In what ways does your life need to be lived with more simplicity?  Money?  Possessions?  Relationships?  Keeping up in social media?  Staying current with the news?  Other?
  9. What is a human “impossibility” that God may be calling you to?  For you, what would constitute or be a “radical act of faith”?
  10. What kinds of things are keeping you from God’s best future for you?  Fear?  Hesitancy?  Inadequacy?  Unwillingness?  Past failures?  Other?
  11. Is it ever awkward for you to enter into conversations (with other Christians) about what Jesus is doing in your life?  What makes it awkward?  Let’s take time to renounce and repent together of these things.
  12. How can we pray for ECB and for our group right now?
