This week's Life Group Questions
1. Read John 20:24-29 in combination with John 11:16 and John 14:5. What overall impression do you have of Thomas after reading these passages?
2. Thomas expresses conditional faith in verse 25: “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe”. Are there any conditions you have (or had) that need(ed) to be met before believing God?
3. Encounters with Jesus always have a redemptive purpose (think e.g. about Jesus’ encounters with Zacchaeus in Luke 19, the woman at the well in John 4 and Mary in John 11-12). In what ways have you encountered Jesus lately and how have you experienced His redemptive work in you?
4. A more important issue than having doubts is where you look for answers to overcome your doubts. What doubt(s) have you been struggling with in your faith life and how did you overcome these? What redemptive role did Jesus play in this?
5. Sharing your doubts with other believers can be difficult, because there is often shame involved. How do you face your doubts in community?
6. Jesus is our Redeemer: He has paid the price to set us free from the power and effects of sin. Break out in groups of 2 and share with each other in what area(s) of your life you need Jesus’ redemption at this moment. After a time of sharing, spend time praying for each other.
7. End your LG-gathering by taking time as a group to praise Jesus for His victory over sin and death.
