This week's Life Group Questions
1) What is your definition of the church (not necessarily ECB)? After sharing with each other, read Ephesians 2:20-21 from the New Living Translation (NLT). How does your definition line up with Paul’s definition of the church?
2) Read Matthew 28:18-20. Prompted by Jesus’ words in this passage, ECB’s mission is to make disciples for global impact.
a. What do you see as your role in pursuing this mission together as a church?
b. What have been your personal experiences with making disciples?
c. What do you think you need to become an effective disciple-maker?
3) A disciple is someone who follows Jesus, is being changed by Jesus and is committed to the mission of Jesus. To what extent is this a description of who you are?
4) ECB’s vision is to see disciples reflect Jesus in all of life (family, work, social groups, school, church, …) and therefore our discipleship aims at making Jesus relevant in every sphere of life.
a. What does Jesus in all of life look like for you at this moment?
b. Are there contexts (think of specific environments or people) in which you are reluctant to reflect Jesus? If so, why do you think this is?
c. What disciple-making opportunities do you see in your daily spheres? In what ways are you pursuing these opportunities?
5) ECB’s commitment to pursue our mission and vision consists of three parts: we want to be a church where we are Nurtured in Community, Transformed through Discipleship and Unleashed for Outreach.
a. In what ways do you see ECB already living up to this commitment?
b. How are you engaging this commitment on the “receiving end” (think of the ways you are being nurtured, being transformed, being unleashed).
c. How are you engaging this commitment on the “giving end” (think of the ways you are nurturing, transforming, unleashing others)?
6) Spend time in prayer together. Below are some prayer pointers to give you direction in what to pray and give thanks for.
a. Praise God for the direction (mission and vision) He has given us.
b. Ask God to continue to clarify the dream He has for ECB. We are His church and desire to follow His lead wherever He is taking us.
c. Ask the Holy Spirit to empower and embolden you to engage in the pursuit of our mission and vision and to specify your role in this pursuit.
d. Give thanks to God for His church, ECB.
