This week's Life Group Questions
1. Conversation starter: what was the key insight you gained from Sunday’s sermon?
2. God wants us to be holy, because He is holy (Leviticus 20:26, 1 Peter 1:14-15). God has set us apart for a special purpose: He created us in His image (Genesis 1:27), so that we can reflect His holiness wherever we are and in whatever we do.
▪ What does holiness look like in your life?
▪ In what ways have other people seen God’s holiness through you lately?
3. Read Philippians 2:12 (NIV and NLT). Progressive sanctification, the process of increasingly being transformed into the likeness of Jesus, requires teamwork between the Holy Spirit and us. Salvation is not a finish line for us to sit back and wait, it’s the start of a journey of change toward becoming holy like God is holy, with active participation at our end.
a) How have you seen the Holy Spirit doing His part of this teamwork?
b) “Work hard to show the results of your salvation….” (NLT). What work are you putting in to make progress with your sanctification?
4. Sanctification involves the transformation of three key areas:
▪ Your character (Galatians 5:22-23).
▪ Your mind (Philippians 4:8, Romans 12:2).
▪ Your conduct (Ephesians 4:20-24, Romans 8:13).
a) What progress have the Holy Spirit and you made in these three areas? Share stories and examples of how you experience sanctification in your life.
Break out in groups of two or three.
b) Sharing time: what are the areas in your life where breakthroughs are needed so that sanctification can take place? Consider bringing into the light strongholds and sin patterns that are holding you back in your journey of transformation.
c) Pray with and for each other, asking the Holy Spirit to lead the way in bringing victory in the areas that you just shared.
5. Get together as a group and close your gathering with a time of praise and thanksgiving.
