This week's Life Group Questions
1. REVIEW
The God who created each one of you has existed eternally as three distinct persons yet one in essence: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit. God has always been in community, and He designed and created you to be nurtured in community. As a church, we are committed to being a nurturing community shaped by truth, united in mission, powered by hesed (lovingkindness), and saturated in joy.
Conversation starter: What is one key insight that stuck with you from the sermon?
2. A STEP DEEPER: APPLICATION
A. As a LIFE group, what qualities of a nurturing community (truth, mission, hesed, and joy) are especially present in your group? Provide examples as you highlight the strengths.
B. As a LIFE group, what qualities of a nurturing community (truth, mission, hesed, and joy) would you like to see grown? Take a step toward deeper community by selecting one of these to intentionally grow in for the next 3 months. Be practical in how you can do this and remember that community is participatory in nature (we all play our part). PAUSE AND PRAY: have 2-3 members of your LG ask the Holy Spirit to empower within you a greater affection for His ways in the areas you are committing to grow in.
3. A STEP DEEPER: HEARING FROM GOD
With this Sunday’s teaching in mind, take time as a group to read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a out loud at least 3 times. As this is read, silently present yourself to God by asking that He might speak to you through His word. As the words from 1 Corinthians 13 are read, listen to the Holy Spirit to see if there is a nudge or whisper where one phrase stands out or sticks in your mind and heart. If something surfaces, take time to hold this and present it back to God in openness seeking to hear how He might want to use it in your life. Take a step toward deeper community by sharing with your LG what you sense God saying to you.
4. A STEP DEEPER: BREAKING BREAD TOGETHER
Jesus has invited us to remember Him together celebrating our new life in Christ by sharing meals together. As an LG, consider planning a meal together where you partake in the breaking of bread (communion). If you already have a meal together, plan to introduce the elements as part of your next group meal. Here are a few practical suggest:
A. Be prepared with the elements (bread and cup).
B. Pause as a group and read 1 Corinthians 11:23-26. Remember that this is for those who have received Jesus as Lord and Savior.
C. Consider passing the bread and cup around taking turns to serve each other – in doing so, we declare the gift of Jesus.
D. End this time by offering thanks for the unifying gift of communion
