This week's Life Group Questions
1. Conversation starter: what was the key insight you gained from Sunday’s sermon?
2. Read John 8:31-32. Holding on to Jesus’ teaching (abiding in His Word) is a mark of a true disciple. Like a mountaineer holds tightly to a rope to climb a mountain, Jesus wants us to hold tightly to His Word as we are following Him.
3. Abiding in God’s Word is the key that unlocks knowing the truth. God wants you to know the truth about Him and about you, and when we apply this truth to our lives, it will set us free from obstacles that hinder our growth to become more like Jesus.
4. One of the reasons we need to hold tightly to the truth is that God’s truth is constantly challenged by satan. He knows that the truth will set us free, and therefore he does what he can to distort the truth to tempt us into believing lies. Recognizing this for what it is (lies) and confronting it with God’s truth is how we effectively stand our ground against satan’s tactics.
5. Abiding in the Word begins with the desire to abide in Jesus (John 15:4). Intimacy is more important than productivity in our meeting times with Him. What practices/disciplines help you to intimately connect with Jesus and to remain in Him?
6. Close your LG gathering with a time of group prayer. Suggested prayer prompters:

a) In your walk as a disciple of Jesus, what does it look like to hold on to Jesus’ teaching?
b) What are some factors that make this challenging?
3. Abiding in God’s Word is the key that unlocks knowing the truth. God wants you to know the truth about Him and about you, and when we apply this truth to our lives, it will set us free from obstacles that hinder our growth to become more like Jesus.
a) Knowing the truth about God is one thing, applying those truths to your life is something else. What has been a recent example of applying the truth about God (or His ways and instructions) to your life? What did you experience in applying this truth?
b) Knowing God’s truth about you is one thing, appropriating it (accepting and embracing that it is for you) is something else. What has been a recent example of appropriating the truth of who God says you are? What did you experience in applying this truth?

6. Close your LG gathering with a time of group prayer. Suggested prayer prompters:
- Praise Jesus for being the Way, the Truth and the Life and the ways He has demonstrated this in your life.
- Give thanks to God for His (powerful) Word, that allows us to know the truth that sets us free from any obstacle that prevents us to live a life of fullness and freedom.
- Ask God to give you a heart of a disciple, humble and teachable, ready to change, longing for more of Him.
