Prayer Guide 22 December 2019
Sunday
Connecting my heart to the heart of the Father
Meditate on the following Advent passages of Scripture and allow the Holy Spirit to sponsor joy in your heart.
Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel! He has come and has redeemed his people!
Pause and give thanks for God’s redemptive plan, fulfilled in Christ.
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned!
Pause and remember the day of your salvation. Thank God that you have been brought out of the shadow of sin and death, into the light of Jesus.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. “But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law that we might receive the full rights of sons...â€
Pause and be still before the Lord. Meditate on the wonder of these truths.
And He will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Pause and reflect. Which of the Names above represents an area of your life that you most need to experience the presence of God? Pray about this.
Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with Justice and Righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
Pause and praise God for His sovereignty over all things –for His perfect justice and righteousness. Submit to His Lordship.
They will call him ‘Immanuel’ – which means, “God with us.â€
Pause and praise God that He is with you. Thank Him for His presence with you in the situations you presently face. Reaffirm your trust in Him. Be thankful for the gift of Jesus.
In the name of Emmanuel, Jesus, who has come that I might have life, and have it to the full. Amen and amen!

Monday
Praying the heart of the Father for the ECB Faith Community
Revive our hearts with fresh out-pourings of Your Holy Spirit, until we long to do Your will! Destroy every work of the evil one yet evident in us and make us holy (Matthew 6:33).
I ask that You increase our hunger and thirst for righteousness, for holiness. May we long for You more than our next meal or earthly pleasure.
Strengthen us to press in deeper in prayer that we might become those who teardown strongholds and everything that sets itself up against You Lord Jesus (2 Corinthians 10:3-5)!

Tuesday
Father, I pray for those among our community of faith who are experiencing trials of many kinds. Strengthen them to persevere and stand firm. As they wait on You Lord, give them I pray, signs of Your goodness to encourage them. Provide for the needs of Your people O God, and strengthen us as we wait on You (Pray for those at ECB who are going through difficult trials).
I ask Father, for fresh out-pourings of the Holy Spirit on us as Your people, that our lives would be marked by brokenness and repentance, submission to Your will, and hunger for holiness and Your Word. Fill Your people afresh with the Holy Spirit!

Wednesday
ECB Prayer and Fasting Focus
Wednesdays have been set aside as a day of prayer and fasting for the ministries of ECB and to ask God for a greater outpouring of the Holy Spirit among us. You are invited to join in praying and fasting during one or all meals, or from something that is important to you. To receive a weekly Prayer and Fasting e-mail, please contact [email protected].
Before you begin, pause and ask for a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit. Be still and wait on the Lord.
Surround us with Your favour, Lord, and establish the work of our hands for the sake of Your kingdom (Psalm 5:12; 90:17) (Pause and pray for those you know of by name from ECB who serve among us. Ask God to pour out the Holy Spirit on them and give them ‘kingdom impact’ in their sphere of influence).
Father, I praise Your holy name and I confess that the kingdom and the power and the glory are Yours alone! The earth is Yours and all who live in it! You are the One True God, creator of all things, and I will worship no other. May You alone be worshiped and adored by Your people (2 Chronicles 29:10-13; Isaiah 40:28; Psalm 24:1)!
Ask God to energize us by His Spirit, that we might not be lethargic or overwhelmed in engaging the communities around us. Pray that we will increasingly be counter-cultural, radical followers of Jesus Christ (Joshua 1:3). Pray for continued harvest from Christmas Outreach events around the city/nation/world – at ECB!

Thursday
Father, remind us that we’ve been called out of darkness. Teach us what it means to ‘walk as children of light’ in the way that we conduct business, interact with friends, treat our spouses, and serve Your Church. May our lives reflect the light of Jesus (Ephesians 5:8; 1 Peter 2:9, 11).
May we become the kind of worshipers that You are seeking – those who worship in spirit and in truth. May we enter into the ECB sanctuary with thanksgiving and praise! May the name of Jesus be exalted among us more and more – and our hearts drawn ever-closer to You (John 4:23; Psalm 100).
Increase our boldness in speaking Your Word, Father, and confirm Your Word among us with signs and wonders, that You Lord Jesus might be exalted and the unbelieving come to faith (Acts 4:29-30)!

Friday
Father, I ask in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, that Your people would be equipped with everything good for doing Your will, according to Your pleasure, that Jesus might be glorified among us in all of His greatness (Hebrews 13:20) Strengthen us by Your Spirit to walk in Your ways – make us to be like Jesus, and give to each of us a willing spirit that we might submit to You (Psalm 51:12).
Father, I ask that we as Your people might be increasingly known for our lavish love and forgiveness of one another. Keep us from pride that kills the work of Your Spirit and hardens our hearts to Your voice calling us to ‘run home’ to You. Give to us I pray, the gift of brokenness and repentance. May we be clothed in humility (Luke 15:11-32; 1 Peter 5:5).
Pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ worldwide, who are facing persecution for their faith. Ask God to strengthen them by His Spirit. Pray that the Church of Jesus will grow and expand in spite of those who come against it.

Saturday
Prepare us to hear and receive what the Holy Spirit would say to each of us. Strengthen us to obey. Bless our pastors with Your peace and presence this day, and give them wisdom and discernment as they shepherd us (Pause and continue to pray for our pastors, elders, deacons, LIFE Group leaders, teachers, church staff, and all who minister among us. Pray that they will be strengthened and encouraged by the Holy Spirit).
May we as Your people learn to truly abide in You, that lasting spiritual fruit might be produced from our lives. From youngest to oldest, may abundant life be evident in each of us (John 15; John 10:10)!
May each of us come before you tomorrow with songs of thanksgiving and joy! Pour out Your Spirit on us as we gather and change us into a people that is conformed to the image of Jesus!
