The Mission
• “ECB is a Biblical community…†No one can follow Christ by themselves. We need each other – Christ in each other (Colossians 1:27). Accordingly, at ECB, there is a priority placed on our belongingness to each other – what that means and how it might look. We desire to be a welcoming faith community where, from the first week, we serve one another as holy friends because of what Christ has done for us.
• “…of the nations to the nations…†It is no coincidence that people from over 40 nations call ECB their home church. It is a part of God’s plan for making a difference in the city of Bangkok, the nation of Thailand, the region of Southeast Asia and the world. Therefore, ECB is a mobilizing “of the nations†so that we will be more effective in reaching “to the nationsâ€.
• “…with prayer…[as our foundation]†ECB desires for prayer to be “the first work†– it comes before, during and after all things. It is the fuel of following and obeying Christ. It is the path to life in the Holy Spirit. By prayer Christians learn the heart of God, discern their own hearts and connect to the world in which Jesus is always working.
• “…and the Word of God as our foundation…†The Word is everything we need to live our lives as God intends (2 Peter 1:3) and the way to accomplish everything God asks us to do (2 Timothy 3:16,17). Therefore, God’s Word is not as some say, “a book of rules to be followed,†but much more it is our lifeblood, breath and food – to sustain our lives (Deuteronomy 8:3; Matthew 4:4). We are more desperate for the Word of God than we can ever know (Psalm 19:7-11; 119:97) and so ECB places this Word as a priority at the foundation of the Church and of life.
• “We are called to exalt the Lord Jesus Christ,…†Worship goes way beyond religion or ceremony. It is an invitation to real life. God calls His people (Psalm 95:1-7a) to come out of the world intentionally into His Presence and recalibrate their lives. We live in a world that constantly sets new priorities and pushes new values. At ECB, Christ is exalted as the Son of God above the world’s priorities to reaffirm that He is the only One in Whom is found the “real life†(John 1:4; 17:3; 1 John 5:11,12; 1 Timothy 4:19) – the life that everyone has always wanted.
• “[We are called to]…serve each other…†Just as all Christians are called to worship God and find their life in Him alone, so we are called to imitate Jesus as we give our lives away to other Christians in His Name. Serving is not loss or expenditure; it is enrichment and an eternal gain (Matthew 10:39; 16:24-26).
• “…and [We are called to]…reach the world.†ECB is an outreach-based church. We come in to go out. We are fed to feed. We are built up to reach out. We are edified to evangelize. Being a Christ-follower is not merely about what we get, but more what we do with what we get. If we truly believe that our lives are now filled up with the Spirit of the God Who made the heavens and the earth, the same Spirit that blew the lid off of a tomb in Judea 2000 years ago, then that must mean something. We have been indwelled by the living God so that His life would transform us and attract a waiting and watching world to Jesus.
